About our vehicles

The Company Car uses the Co-operative Auto Network (CAN) cars – a fleet of 239 vehicles and counting of varying types.  These are located in 7 cities in BC's Lower Mainland and on the Island.  The cities and towns are:  Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Tsawwassen, North Vancouver, West Vancouver and UBC, and on Vancouver Island in Nanaimo.

Vehicle types

People have different car needs at different times.  CAN has vehicles ranging from hatchbacks – including Volkswagen Beetles, Mini Cooper Classics and Smart Cars – up through sedans (Mazda 3; Toyota Prius, Yaris and Corolla); wagons (Mazda 6, Toyota RAV 4, Ford Focus, Pontiac Vibe, and Toyota Matrix); mini vans that seat 7 such as Mazda MPVs – some with integrated child seats like Pontiac Montanas – and even pickup trucks – Mazda B4000s with short boxes, liners and canopies.  We also have two convertibles.  For the same price, you can always choose the vehicle that's right for your trip.  All of our vehicles have automatic transmissions.

Vehicle insurance

All vehicles are insured for work purposes with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) under a fleet plan option so the Co-operative Auto Network, not the driver, holds the insurance.  We carry Third Party Legal Liability to $5,000,000 plus Collision and Specified Perils Coverage.  In an at-fault accident, the employee at fault is responsible for the deductible just as if s/he were driving a personally owned or company vehicle.  The deductible is $500.
