The Company Car and The Car Co-op

The Company Car (TCC) was incorporated in 2003 by the .

The Car Co-op was incorporated in 1996.  The Car Co-op is a local, not-for-profit co-operative incorporated to foster car sharing and raise awareness about the benefits of sharing cars over private ownership. The Car Co-op is an environmentally responsible and economically sound choice, meeting the mobility needs of thousands of people in B.C. and beyond. Through car sharing we aim to improve air quality, reduce stresses on green space and eliminate many non-point sources of pollution.

Over the years we have had many requests from companies , not-for-profit organizations as well as all levels of government to make car sharing available for those organizations – not just for individuals.  And now we can through The Company Car.

The Company Car uses The Car Co-op's vehicles – a fleet of 241 vehicles (and counting) of varying types. These are located in seven cities in B.C.'s Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island. The cities and towns are: UBC, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, and on Vancouver Island in Nanaimo.

This is a beautiful relationship as growth for TCC through Clients (who usually want the vehicles weekdays during the day) means more vehicles available for Car Co-op members on evenings and weekends (which are busier times for individuals/personal use).

Our goal is to get people thinking about automobiles as an optional transportation method:  vehicles are there when you need them, but they're only taken after other options, like walking, cycling, or taking transit or cabs are considered first.

Our Values At the core, we are an ethical organization. We are signatories and participants of the North American Car Sharing Industry Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (http://carsharingindustry.org/the-code-of-ethics). This code of ethics provides a framework of governance on how we conduct our business and how we create a genuine car sharing experience for our members. And through genuine car sharing experiences, we strive to enhance our members' lives and facilitate community transformation. Our Mission At The Car Co-op, our goal is to turn car owners into car sharers. We want to see a Co-op car on every corner, and a community on every street! Our Vision We envision vibrant communities transformed through sustainable transportation. ------------- Car sharing is but one way to get around our public spaces. We consider ourselves first and foremost an environmental organization and support active transportation solutions that build vibrant and sustainable communities.

How does The Company Car operate?

The Company Car (TCC) is wholly owned by The Car Co-op, which provides car sharing for individuals and The Company Car provides car sharing for organizations, such as businesses, NGOs, and governmental departments.  The Car Co-op enhances the social and economic well-being of its community while creating incentives for people to walk, cycle and take transit or taxi cabs more often.  The Car Co-op is an environmental organization first and foremost.
